These unique formations can be found along the shore at 老梅 Laomei Village in 石門區 Shimen District. During spring, the stone troughs are covered in green algae (sea lettuce and green seaweed) and they are best viewed during the low tide from February to May.
These ridges and troughs formed hundreds of years ago when lava from the 大屯 Datun volcanoes cooled into rock that was then formed by weathering and wave erosion into rows of stone troughs jutting from the shore.
