We left Taipei around 11:30AM and made our way to a campground near the
Huisun Forest Recreation Area. We took our time stopping at a rest area in Hsinchu to pick up some fresh fruit and a few things from one of the bakeries. We didn't book a campsite but hoped a spot would be available upon arrival.
We spent the night at the Ban Tian Campground. (
伴天聊露營區) It was 1,200nt/tent and we ended up renting a big shelter tent for 500nt to sit under as it rained for the first few hours of our stay. Around 8:00PM, the rain finally let up.
Camping was a lot of fun. My friend brought a hibachi grill and homemade vegetarian chili which went deliciously well with the garlic bread we had picked up at the rest area. Day one was off to an excellent start, even in the rain!

After our visit at the Huisun Forest Recreation Area, we made our way to another campground near the
Aowanda National Forest Recreation Area. We stayed at a place called
曉山秋. It being a Sunday night, we were the only ones on the campground. We surprised the owner who had to do some quick cleaning upon our arrival. They charged us 900nt to camp for the night.
